What’s on the Plymouth Barbican – September 2014

With the summer season coming to an end you’d think everything would be winding down. You’d be wrong! In September we have a host of activities outside and in to celebrate Plymouth’s Ocean City Festival 2014!

Events During September…

Plymouth Ocean City Festival: 8th to 28th September 2014

Lots of events are taking part across the Barbican during the Ocean City Festival including…

The Blue Mile (13th & 14th September): (http://www.thebluemile.org/) offering a range of water based activities to enjoy and watch.

National Marine Aquarium (lots of events through September):

Sea Food Festival (27th & 28th September): If you enjoyed Flavour Fest you will love Plymouth’s Seafood Festival. Set in the historic Barbican, this festival, now in its third year, will celebrate the city’s fantastic locally caught seafood.

This Plymouth Waterfront Partnership funded event will bring the area alive with entertainment, activities and fishy dishes to showcase the city’s fantastic locally caught seafood.

Plymouth is the first city in the world to obtain the Fish2Fork Blue City status and provides the perfect setting for this festival.

Taking place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September this event provides an exciting day out for the whole family. Visit the Quayside Market on The Parade and Quay Square to see a huge array of seafood and local produce from companies including The Market Plaice Fishmongers, The Oyster Shack and A.S Sushi & More Ltd.

Buzzing with live family entertainment there will be music from the Tavy Tars Shanty Band, puppet shows, facepainting and a sea themed colouring wall. The popular Jonty Depp will also be amongst the crowd.

Watch teams in fancy dress battle it out on the water paddling their hand made rafts onwards to the finishing line. Who will be this year’s winner?!

*Note: The Parade Antiques team currently hold the cup & aiming to keep it ;)*

Coming up next month – October…

In October we’ll take a look at a number of events held locally on a regular basis, just before we start to edge towards Christmas 😉

Don’t forget…

Grab a copy of the new Association of Barbican Businesses (ABB) Barbican Map and Guide. Copies are available within many of the shops located around the Barbican, the Tourist Information Centre and also available to download and print on the www.barbicanwaterfront.com website.

The map and guide also show the new ABB logo of the Barbican Prawn, who has his own Twitter account @barbicanprawn.

Speaking of prawns our local resident prawn “Phillip the Prawn” can be found lurking outside Parade Antiques and is also on Twitter @phillipprawn. Send him a message, we promise he won’t bite… much!
