We have a number of large events taking place during this month here on the Plymouth Barbican, including the unmissable annual ABB Barbican Raft Race!
Plymouth Seafood Festival (20-22nd)
Highly popular last year the Plymouth Seafood Festival sees crowds of people enjoying the quayside fish markets and demonstrations, an event not to be missed with dishes being prepared right before your eyes by top chefs.
The Cookery Theatre will be packed with demonstrations of freshly caught local fish being prepared in a variety of mouth-watering dishes.
Hear from local fishermen Ben Squire and Sid the Squid as they talk about the sustainable fishing methods they use.
On Saturday 21st, 3pm This leads onto the fish filleting championship as 5 line up to go head to head in a speed filleting contest! Knifes at the ready!
While the parent’s stomachs rumbling at the sights of the fish dishes being prepared, the little ones can take part in the crabbing contest outside The Boathouse Café. 11am on Sunday 22nd, entrance fee £5 includes equipment (crab line, bait and bucket). 2pm – official weigh in and prizes awarded to the winner and runners up.
Along with the seafood demonstrations, street performers will be amongst the crowds including Jonty Depp aka Captain Jack Sparrow!
The National Marine Aquarium will also be holding activities related too.

Ecover Blue Mile (14th-15th)
Sat 14 – Sun 15 September (9am – 5pm)
The Ecover Blue Mile will see hundreds of people taking to the water off the Plymouth Barbican in a mass participation watersports event that aims to get people actively involved on the water and raising money for the Marine Conservation Society.
The events are: A timed 1-mile swim, kayak races, stand up paddle races, Aquatriathlon and a team corporate challenge taking place on the Commercial Wharf/Mayflower Steps.
Keep an eye out for Olympic 2012 Gold Medallists and organiser Conrad Humphreys along with 2008 Olympic modern pentathlon silver medallist, Heather Fell, who is the event commentator for the 2 days. Paul Rose, presenter of the BBC TV programme, Oceans, will also be involved.
Plymouth Barbican Raft Race (22nd, 5pm)
Teams of dedicated barbican traders and local organisations grab duct tape, barrels and makeshift oars to build the mother of all rafts to do battle on the Barbican waterfront!
Fancy dress is a must as is plenty of fun and games. This is one event to put on your calendar. Not to be missed!

Parade Antiques and 27 New Street
All these September events are taking place near to us here at 27 New Street where you’ll find Parade Antiques and the 27 New Street Arcade full of friendly local traders offering a host of gift ideas.
